About Me

Writer, screenwriter, essayist, memoirist. Runner, reader, cheese-lover, vintage-fashion collector. Amateur student of languages, crocheting, and history. Avid watcher of people and birds. Mom. Misanthrope.

Raised in the extremely high-control Christian sect of Seventh-Day Adventists, my life has been a wild and fraught reaction to - and slow, painful growth out of - that all-consuming programming which taught so many of us (with disastrous results) to submit to external authority and abandon ourselves.

I write about many seemingly different things here and in blogs, magazine articles, anthology essays, but the themes all trace back to the purity culture, submission training, and deeply misogynistic views in which I was marinated (submerged? drowned?) for the first 18 years of life.

My attempt at collecting, sorting through, and drawing meaning and healing from such a viciously controlled upbringing in a largely invisible, secretive organization can be found in my upcoming memoir, HOLY DISOBEDIENCE, coming out with Lake Drive Books on March 31st, 2026.
